History of Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple

 

After 950 years in kaliyuga, there lived a devotee of lord Vishnu, Vilwamangalam Swamiyar in Kerala. He used to perform pooja and meditation to get a chance to see lord Vishnu. One day an attractive and cute boy visited his home. Swamiyar got attracted towards the boy and asked the boy to stay at his home permanently. The boy accepted to stay with him, but on one condition. The boy said…. The day you do not respect me, I will move to a place called Ananthankadu. Swamiyar accepted the condition. But the boy used to disgust Swamiyar daily with his naughty behavior. One day when swamiyar was performing pooja As the boy is playing with the idol of Lord Vishnu Which he worship daily for that swamiyar warned that boy. Immediately the boy left the home.

Again swamiyar went in search of that boy and reached Ananthakkadu.There that boy entered into the tree in front of swamiyar. Immediately it turned into a vast tree with the height of 13 Km and fell down. And it turned into a huge idol of Lord Vishnu resting on the celestial snake anantha. Then realizing that the boy is lord Vishnu and requested the lord to shrink to a smaller proportion. Immediately the lord Vishnu shrank to the form of the idol with 18 feet height.

Swamiyar with the assistance of the reigning king a temple was constructed for that idol. That is Anantha Padmanabha Temple.
